Women's Tennis Recap (Week 6) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s tennis teams competed this week.

 

Austin College
The ‘Roos faced rainy weather at home this week, cutting their first match short against the University of the Southwest. Before the match was called, the ‘Roos held a 4-1 lead. The following day, AC took on Hendrix College, defeating the Warriors 5-1. The ‘Roos swept doubles play, beginning with an 8-5 win at the No. 1 spot from Meghan White and Grace Ortiz. Cierra White and Anamariia Kheveli took the second line 8-3, while Carlye Lide and Katie Barber finished it out with a 9-7 win in the third spot. In singles action, Ortiz and Cierra White earned wins at No. 2 and 3, respectively, to close out the match. The No. 1, 4 and 5 matches went unfinished.

Colorado College
The Tigers headed east for a spring break trip in Orlando, taking on Haverford College and College of Wooster while down there. In their first match, CC took on Haverford, but fell 6-3. The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, earning wins by Fiona Cerf/Mary Edman at the No. 1 spot, 8-6, and Gillian Hyde/Natalia Dellavalle at No. 3, 9-7. Cerf earned the Tigers only singles point at the top spot, winning 6-3, 7-6 (4). Maggie Harwood was the closest to getting a singles point as she fell 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8) at No. 4. CC bounced back against Wooster to earn a 7-2 win Saturday. Similar to the other match, the Tigers entered singles play with a 2-1 lead, but this match, they only allowed one singles point by Wooster. Cerf/Edman took the No. 1 doubles spot 8-6, while Harwood teamed up with Maddie Cahill-Sanidas to take No. 2 doubles 8-3. Cerf swept through the top singles spot 6-0, 6-3. While Harwood had an identical outcome at No. 4. Edman took No. 2 singles 6-2, 7-6 (6) and Dellavalle finished her match at No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Gillian Hyde earned the Tigers final point, with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the sixth line.

Trinity University
The #38 Tigers continued a road trip in California this week, taking on three nationally-ranked opponents. They began the week against #6 Bowdoin College, but fell 7-2. BC swept through doubles play, but two Tigers were able to earn wins in singles action. Marie Lutz took the No. 2 spot 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, while Blaire Porter took No. 4 singles 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. The following day, TU dropped a match 8-1 to #8 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. Caroline White earned the Tigers’ only point at No. 3 singles, defeating the P-P opponent 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. In doubles action, the pair of Liza Southwick/Lutz (No. 1) and Cheyenne Duncan/Porter (No. 2) each battled, but fell 8-6 in their respective matches. Trinity closed out the trip with a 7-2 win over #32 Chapman University Wednesday. The Tigers flew through doubles action, earning wins at all three spots. Southwick/Lutz took the top spot 8-5, Duncan/Porter earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 and Gabrielle Roe teamed up with White for an 8-3 win in the third line. In singles play, Southwick earned a win at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2. Chapman took the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, but it was all Trinity after that. Porter earned a win at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3, Roe took the fifth-line 6-1, 6-1, and Nicole Rueb took the No. 6 spot 6-3, 6-1.
