Women's Golf Recap (Week 2) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Texas – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s golf teams competed this week in the Schreiner Spring Shootout at Comanche Trace.

Trinity University took the team title, finishing 40 shots ahead of Schreiner, who took second. Southwestern rounded out the SCAC teams, finishing in sixth place.

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers played host to the Schreiner Spring Shootout this week in Kerrville. Despite illnesses among the team, Schreiner finished the competition in second place, behind Trinity. Melanie Dean led the team in second place, shooting a 161 (82, 79). Marissa Fallis and Jaimie Hughes each tied for 16th place with scores of 177. Allyson Graybill rounded out the Mountaineers’ scorers, shooting a 183 for 24th place. Courtlynd Miller took 32nd place in the competition after shooting a 196.

Southwestern University
The Pirates had just four team members competing in the Schreiner Spring Shootout and finished in sixth place overall. Bernice Leonard led the team in third place, firing off a 162 with a score of 81 in both rounds. Keeley Coburn tied for tenth place with a 172 (81, 91), Lauren Boone took 15th, marking a 176 (89, 87). Jenny Smith rounded out the team, shooting a 207 for 37th place.

Trinity University
The Tigers earned the team win, shooting a 658 through the 36-hole competition, finishing 40 shots ahead of second-place Schreiner. All five members of the Trinity team finished in the top 10. Hannah Ninner led the team in the competition’s top spot, shooting a 159. Ninner’s second round mark of 76 was the lowest round of the tournament and improved seven shots over her first day score of 83. Shelby DeVore took fifth place, shooting a 164, including the lowest mark through the first round, 79. Brigitte Lee finished in a tie for sixth place, marking a 167 (80, 87). Madeline Moran was the fourth and final scorer for the Tigers, shooting a 169. Alessa Hutter was the final Tiger competing. Hutter finished in a tie for 10th place, shooting a 172.
