The Gents also got a complete game, one hit effort from Holden Novak, striking out four throughout the game and only walking three. He earned his eighth win of the season.
RBIs from Kody Carson, Christian Sebastien, and Cole Lavergne gave the Gents an early 3-0 lead. After a double play made it 4-0, Sebastien had the play of the game, taking advantage of a no-look to third base from the catcher and stealing home to make it 5-0 and send the home crowd into a frenzy.
Centenary cruised from there, getting another run off a Aaron Quintanilla sacrific fly in the fifth, and four more runs in the sixth to take the opening game victory.
Sebastien and Lavergne each finished 2-for-3 on the afternoon with two RBI. Sebastien and Carson scored two runs while Ian Graham, Dakota Brown, Carson, and Quintanilla all drove in a run.
For Southwestern, Will Preston took the loss, allowing six runs in 4.0 innings pitched. Both Collin Buckley and Joseph Koch saw an inning of action in relief. Ben Little had the only hit for the Pirates.
With the win, Centenary will move into tomorrow's 2:30 p.m. winner's bracket game against the winner of Texas Lutheran and Trinity. The winner of that game tomorrow afternoon will move into the SCAC Championship Game on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Southwestern will play again tonight at 7 p.m. against the loser of Texas Lutheran and Trinity in an elimination game.
