EMILY ELLIS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blocker from Georgetown, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 25 through Sunday, October 31. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 9)
Ellis made her presence known in the No. 2 Tigers' SCAC regular-season finale with eight blocks to best the 16th-ranked Pirates en route to the team's eighth victory of the season over a nationally-ranked opponent and first undefeated regular season in conference play since 2007. The 2019 All-America selection earned a 2.67 blocks per set rate as her eight blocks came in just three of the match's four sets and was coupled with eight kills on a .571 hitting percentage for 4.3 points per set from the middle.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outside hitter Isabella Lipacis of Colorado College recorded 53 digs for an average of 3.79 per set to help the Tigers clinch the second seed for this week's SCAC Championship with a 4-0 record. Lipacis also had a hand in seven blocked shots to help CC hold its four opponents to a combined .136 team hitting percentage. She posted double-doubles against both Austin College (13 kills/17 digs) and Texas Lutheran University (15 kills/17 digs), to improve her season total to 16. Lipacis also had only one reception error on 83 opportunities. In the five-set victory over TLU, Lipacis produced 15 kills, 17 digs and four blocked shots. She also hit .320 while averaging 3.07 kills per set. Senior right side Madison Weisinger of Texas Lutheran was a force for the Bulldogs block this weekend tallying 20 blocks on the weekend. She averaged 1.33 blocks per set and added four digs in leading TLU to a 3-1 weekend and the No. 4 seed at this weekend's upcoming conference tournament. Senior defensive specialist/libero Ali Grona of Southwestern had 35 digs in seven sets, averaging five per set. She was instrumental in holding Schriner to a .010 hitting percentage in Saturday's 3-0 sweep of the Mountaineers.
