TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 13 Trinity University Men's Tennis collected five of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's six annual regional honors, the organization announced last week, highlighting a successful 2022 season for the Tigers.
A strong senior campaign for Cameron Krimbill landed the ITA's Senior Player of the Year award, the fourth Trinity player to earn the regional version since the ITA began awarding regional honors in 2001.
Fellow senior Christian Settles was named the Most Improved Senior, showing the most improvement over the course of his career within the West. Both awards for Krimbill and Settles are the first since Wilson Lambeth earned both honors following the 2019 campaign.
Junior Hao Nguyen continued a rich history for Tigers and the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award for the region, which per the ITA, "is presented to men's and women's student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements in ways that embody the legacy of tennis icon and humanitarian Arthur Ashe Jr." Since 1995, Trinity players have secured five national editions of the award, while no other program has had more than two.
Both members of the Trinity Men's Tennis coaching staff, Head Coach Russell McMindes and Assistant Coach George Rivers earned top honors in the region for their respective positions. McMindes was named the NCAA III National Coach of the Year in 2014, also the last time he earned the regional title, while Rivers was named the nation's Assistant Coach of the Year in 2019.
As regional honorees, all five members of Trinity Men's Tennis are in contention for the national versions of their recognition from the ITA. The organization will announce those recipients June 15.
