Trinity's Krimbill and Southwestern's Mayer Earn National ITA Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. - Trinity University senior Cameron Krimbill earned the national Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, while Southwestern University assistant head coach Chas Mayer was named the National Men’s Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year it was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday.

Krimbill, the 2021 SCAC Man of the Year graduated this past spring with a 3.80 GPA in Accounting, appeared on the Trinity Dean's List for two semesters, is a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and three-time honoree on the SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Krimbill also served his campus and local communities as a member of Trinity's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, as a volunteer peer tutor, in the TU Smashers program which offered free tennis clinics to San Antonio youths, at the St. Mary's Food Bank, with Tiffany's House of Hope and the San Antonio Children's Hospital.

The 2021 SCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year and two-time all-american led the Tigers to the program's 15th NCAA III regional title and 25th SCAC Championship with a 16-8 (5-0 SCAC) record this season including an unblemished 8-0 record at the Butch Newman Tennis Center, including victories over NCAA I Rice University and University of the Incarnate Word.

The ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding student-athletes in all five divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO) at the regional and national level. This prestigious award, which dates back to 1982, is presented to the men's and women's national student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Krimbill is the eighth SCAC student-athlete to win this award since 1995 – joining Alexis Dimanche of Southwestern University (2020), Nicolas Moreno of Trinity University (2014), Erick DelaFuente of Trinity University (2013), Michael Rardon of DePauw University (2011), Marshall Kuresman of DePauw University (2005), Sloan Rush of Trinity University (2001) and Chris Zolas of Trinity University (1996) in earning the prestigious distinction.

Mayer earned National Men’s Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year after helping guide Southwestern to a historic season this past spring.

The Pirates put together an outstanding season going 15-3 and finishing ranked No. 10 in the nation. The ranking was the highest in program history. Additionally, with Mayer's guidance, Southwestern qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. Finally, Mayer helped coach the Pirates' No. 1 singles player, Hunter Bajoit, to ITA Singles All-American honors.

Mayer is the first national winner in program history for this award.
