HAO NGUYEN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Sugar Land, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 27 through Sunday, April 2. SCAC Men's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 9
Nguyen led the 11th-ranked Tigers to a 2-1 overall record last week, losing only to No. 2 Washington (Mo.), and collecting wins over No. 13 Caltech and SCAC opponent Austin College. Nguyen went 2-0 for the week, rallying for a three-set win over the 32nd-ranked singles player in the country during the WashU match, earning the 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) victory for the team's only singles point of the contest. He also earned a straight-set win over another singles opponent ranked in the top 50 nationally against Caltech, putting Trinity ahead 4-1 at the time.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Andrew Kaelin of Colorado College went a perfect 3-0 in singles play last week, including a couple of wins over Division II opponents. He opened the week with a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Andrew Kropp of Willamette at the No. 4 spot. On Saturday, he posted CC"s lone point against DII Colorado Mesa by winning the No. 5 match, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(9) over Jandre van Wyk, then rallied again on Sunday to beat Stephen Kossifas of 31st-ranked Metro State, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(6), at No. 4 for CC"s only point against the Roadrunners. Senior Carson Kirk of Schreiner went 2-0 on the week, which included a 6-3, 6-3 conference victory over TLU's Cashton Herrera at top line singles. Senior Tyler Head of St. Thomas led the Celts to a bounce-back week taking a line one victory against SCAC foe Dallas this past weekend. Head held his opponent to just four games taking the 6-1, 6-3 win as UST swept the Crusaders for their second SCAC win of the season. Junior Ryan Flanagan of Southwestern picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Eric Kuo of Washington (Mo.) at line five in the Pirates' tough 5-4 loss to the second-ranked Bears.
