SCAC Places Two in Top 30 of Final Fall Learfield Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference placed two member institutions in the top 30 in the 2023-24 Division III LEARFIELD Sports Directors’ Cup final fall standings it was announced on Thursday. Complete Standings

Trinity University currently sits in 26th place to lead all SCAC member institutions, while Colorado College is 30th and University of St. Thomas is tied for 131st to round out the league schools in the fall standings.   

The SCAC is one of just eight NCAA Division III Conferences (MIAA, MIAC, NESCAC, NEWMAC, ODAC, UAA, WIAC) with two or more member institutions ranked in the top 30 of the fall standings.

The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

The Trinity Tigers have totaled 201 points in the overall standings, based on NCAA postseason competition, led by the women's volleyball team racking up 73 points after advancing to the Division III national quarterfinals for the third-straight year. The men’s and women’s soccer team combined for 75 points after both programs made NCAA Tournament appearances, including an opening round victory for the men’s team, while the football program posted a top 10 finish to earn 53 points in the NACDA standings. 

Colorado College racked up 173 points behind a magical run to the national quarterfinals from the men’s soccer team. The CC Tigers men’s soccer team earned 73 points after falling just short of the national semifinals to Washington & Lee in penalty kicks. The Tiger’ women’s cross country team earned 52 points following its 22nd place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship meet. The men’s cross country squad garnered 48 points via its 26th place finish National Meet, making the program’s first appearance since 2007.  

Rounding out the SCAC teams in the fall standings was University of St. Thomas who is tied for 131st place with 25 points. The Celts earned their third-straight SCAC men’s soccer tournament title this fall and made their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance before falling in the opening round.

Johns Hopkins has the lead in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Div. III fall standings with 459.00 points, while Middlebury sits in second (331.00) and SUNY Cortland is third overall with 324.00 points.

To date, seven fall NCAA Div. III championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – Carleton College; men’s cross country – Pomona Pitzer College; field hockey – Middlebury College; women's volleyball – Juniata College; women’s soccer – Cal Lutheran University; men’s soccer – St. Olaf College; football – SUNY Cortland.
