Trinity Men Capture Fifth Consecutive SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Crown

GARLAND, Texas – Trinity University won its fifth straight SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship and the program's 16th overall title on Saturday night at the Garland ISD Natatorium. The Tigers finished with 1,085 points to defeat second-place Colorado College, who ended with 932 points. Southwestern University was third with 639 points, followed by McMurry University with 272 points, Austin College with 213 points, University of the Ozarks with 191 points, Centenary College scored 161 points, and University of St. Thomas was eighth with 32 points. 

Swimmer-of-the-Meet honors went to Trinity's Michael Kohl who won individual titles in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly and was a part of all five of the Tigers' winning relay teams. The Swimmer-of-the-Meet honor was the fourth straight for Kohl, making him the first athlete in SCAC swimming and diving history to win the award four times. Kohl ended his SCAC career with a remarkable 32-0 record, having never been defeated in any conference swim final - be it an individual event or as part of a relay.  

For the third consecutive year, Diver-of-the-Meet honors went to Konstantine Partalas who won the SCAC title in the 3-meter boards while finishing second in the 1-meter board.

The Colorado College staff - led by head coach Anne Goodman-James, along with assistant coaches Ellen Walker, Jen Buffin, Adric Arndt, and Misty Banta - earned SCAC Women's Coaching Staff-of-the-Year honors. It is the fourth time Goodman-James has received COTY recognition on the men's side.

Trinity's Konstantine Partalas won the 3-meter board earlier this afternoon when he recorded a winning total of 505.30. It marked his third-straight win on the 3-meter board and the senior became just the second diver in league history to win this event three times. Colorado College's Edmund Davis repeated as champion in the 1650-yard freestyle when he tallied a top time of 16:06.50. He became the first repeat winner in the event since Trinity's Jacob Hurrell-Zitelman did so from 2017-2019. Trinity's Lucio Bollettieri was second with a time of 16:26.73 while Colorado College's Logan Brown was third, touching the wall in 16:31.05. 1,650-Yard Freestyle Interview  

Caleb Peimann of Colorado College won the 200-yard back as he clocked a time of 1:51.95. He became the third different swimmer from Colorado College to win the event. Southwestern's Andrew Renninger was second tallying a time of 1:53.68 while Daniel Itkins of Trinity was third, finishing with a time of 1:54.11. 200-Yard Backstroke Interview

The 100-yard freestyle saw Trinity's Michael Kohl set a SCAC championship record after he won the event with a time of 44.35 seconds. The time was also a 'B' cut time. With the win, Kohl became the SCAC's all-time wins leader with his 12th individual conference title. Kendal Southwell of Trinity made SCAC history as he became the first swimmer to four-peat as champion in the 200 breast when he touched the wall in an SCAC meet and open record time of 1:59.79. The time was also earned him a 'B' cut time as well. Finishing second was Collin Ralston of Colorado College who tallied a mark of 2:02.24. The 200-yard fly saw Tomas Gonzalez of Colorado College take top billing after recording a winning time of 1:51.54. Gonzalez became just the second Tiger swimmer to win the event and the first since Colin Chupik in 2013. Will Walker of Trinity was second, recording a time of 1:52.14 and Zach Kangieser of Southwestern placed third with a time of 1:52.53. 200-Yard Butterfly Interview

Trinity closed out the championship by doing something that had only been done one time previously, earning its fourth straight victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Tiger quartet of Kohl, Nate Perez, Trace Briones, and Nathan Early earned gold and clocked a 'B' cut time of 3:01.77 to take top of the podium honors. Only DePauw, who won seven straight 400 free relays from 2005-2011, has won more consecutive titles in the meet-ending event than Trinity's four. Notes: A total of seven SCAC men's championship meet records were broken including, 800 free relay, 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 free, and the 200 breast. In addition to the seven league records, SCAC men's swimmers tallied 11 NCAA 'B' cut times.
