LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released the 2021-22 All-District teams Tuesday morning, and two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball players earned a spot on the District 10 All-District squad.
University of St. Thomas’ Christian Alaekwe and Trinity University’s Enzo Sechi earned First Team accolades.
Alaekwe, a native of Fresno, Texas, was named SCAC Player-of-the-Year after he led all conference players in scoring during league play, averaging 18.8 points game in just 28.6 minutes played per contest. His overall scoring average of 15.3 points per game was third in the conference. The senior also led the league in three-point field goals made (60) and was fifth in three-point field goal percentage (38.0 percent), eighth in steals (33) and 13th in blocks (17). He scored in double figures in 15 of 16 conference games and had a nine-game streak where he scored at least 18 points, which included a season-high 30-point effort on Jan. 29 at Dallas when he hit 11-of-16 shots from the field to earn SCAC Player-of-the-Week honors.
Sechi, an All-SCAC First-Teamer was the nightly anchor of the Trinity offense this season scoring a team-high 14.4 points per game (16.2 per SCAC game), with all but three appearances in double-figures on the campaign.
The Houston-native put together a trio of 20-plus point games as the centerpiece to a three-option offense over the year, including a career-high 33-point double-double in the December 4 overtime victory, 95-84, at Schreiner University, a victory that proved crucial come February. He was awarded one of his two SCAC Player of the Week honors for that performance.
