Trinity finished no worse than second in any sport it competed this year, becoming the first institution to pull off this display of consistent dominance over the course of one academic year since Washington & Lee accomplished the feat during the 1972-73 season - a year that the then College Athletic Conference had just four members.
It is the 22nd overall all-sports crown for the institution - also a conference record.
The Tigers finished with 625 total points and defeated second-place Southwestern University, who totaled 447.5 points, by 177.5 points. Only the 2013-14 and 2015-16 all-sports trophies were decided by larger margins with Trinity managing 195 and 187.5 point margins those years, respectively.
After two seasons where COVID protocols, at some point along the way, wreaked havoc on conference championship schedules, the 2021-22 academic year produced a much closer semblance of normalcy. Even while navigating residual issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic (especially during the fall and winter sports seasons), the SCAC played every single conference game/match in the team sports of men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and baseball. Of 448 scheduled conference contests over the academic year, 447 of them were played. The one contest not played was a softball game on the final regular season weekend that was lost due to weather-related issues.
Trinity earned conference championships in women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's swimming & diving, women's basketball, women's golf, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track & field over the course of the 2021-22 athletics season, marking the 14th time an institution has won 10 or more conference championships in one academic year. It is the 13th time that Trinity has been that institution.
