JACOB MASON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Westminster, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, October 5 through Tuesday, October 11. SCAC Golf Release (Week 5)
Mason fired a 65 on Tuesday - the best round of the tournament - to tie atop the leaderboard with a three-round score of 208 (-5) and lead Trinity to a team victory at the Alamo City Classic contested at The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio. Mason's herculean effort launched the second-year Tiger up six places on the individual leaderboard to force a playoff for the individual championship, but fell in the first playoff hole on the par-4 10th.
The sophomore, who started Tuesday's final round tied for seventh at +1, birdied the first three holes he played during his final round and finished the Par 71, 6.699 yard track with seven birdies against just one bogey.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Christian Rodriguez of Southwestern finished in third alone at 209 (-4), just one shot behind the leaders at the Alamo City Classic. He was the only player in the 48-player field to have two rounds in the 60s. Senior Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner finished with a three-round score of 211 (-2) - good for fourth place - to pace the Mountaineers at the Alamo City Classic. Sophomore Jackson Lehner of Dallas finished with a final round 69 to move two slots up the leaderboard and finish tied for fifth with a three-round score of 212 (with his teammate Karsten Paciotti) at the Alamo City Classic. Senior Chandler Otto of Texas Lutheran posted rounds of 75, 74 and 74 to finish at 223 (+10), along with teammate Tobey Wills, at the Alamo City Classic.
