DJ SPRINGER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Southlake, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, February 9.
Springer shot 69-68 to lead the Trinity men to a repeat as team champions at the Alamo City Classic on Tuesday. The junior won the tournament by two shots, breaking his previous low round at Trinity with Tuesday's 3-under score of 68. He led all players in par 4 scoring for the tournament and tied for second with nine total birdies. The individual win is the first in the collegiate career for Springer.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Chase Maus of Texas Lutheran, the first-round leader of the Alamo City Classic after Monday's 68, shot a 1-over-par 72 on Tuesday - giving him a two-day total of 140 to put him three shots behind medalist DJ Springer of Trinity. Junior Emilio Montalvo of Dallas fired rounds of 71 and 71 to finish at even par 142 - one of just six players to finish at par or better at the Alamo City Classic. Sophomore Richard Polan of Centenary shot rounds of 73 and 71 for a two-round total of 144 and finished two-over-par - good for 10th place alone at the Alamo City Classic. Junior Austin O'Brien of Schreiner paced the Mountaineers with an opening round 73 at the Alamo City Classic before settling for a two-day total of 156 (+14) to finish in a tie for 33rd.
