Trinity Leads Five SCAC Members Ranked in Winter Learfield Directors' Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Currently in 24th place, Trinity University leads five SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2022-2023 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup winter standings. Complete Standings

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. 

Trinity has amassed 377.00 points in the standings, less than 20 points outside of the top-20, behind the strength of its three NCAA appearances in the fall and three more appearances in the winter. The Tiger women’s basketball team once again highlighted the winter championship performances, advancing the Division III Regional Semifinals for the second-straight year and racking up 64.00 points. The women’s swimming & diving team posted the highest SCAC finish at the National Championships since 2017, finishing 19th and earning 55.00 points. The men’s swimming & diving squad turned in a 23rd-place finish at nationals and rounded out the 170.00 total winter points for Trinity with 51.00.  

Colorado College currently sits in 79th with 135.50 total points. The CC Tigers collected 49 additional points on the strength of a 25th-place finish at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships last month. The SCAC is one of just 19 conferences with two or more programs in the top 80.  

St. Thomas continues to make a splash in its first season of eligibility for NCAA Division III championship play, as the Celts are currently sitting in a tie for 115th with 89.00 total points. Behind the strength of the SCAC Men’s Basketball Regular season championship, St. Thomas earned an additional 25.00 points after the Celts made its debut in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship in March.

Schreiner University is tied for 212th on the heels of its magical run to the SCAC Men’s Basketball Tournament title. The Mountaineers have 25.00 total points after making its second NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament appearance in program history.

Texas Lutheran University joins Schriner in a tie for 212th with 25.00 points, having earned its points with a women’s volleyball run in the NCAA Tournament last fall.

Johns Hopkins leads all of Division III at the completion of the winter championships season with 881.50 points and holds a slim 68-point lead over second-place Williams (813.50). MIT is in third with 675.25, followed by Tufts (645.50) and Chicago (618.00) to round out the top five.

To date, all nine winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women's basketball – Transylvania; men's basketball – Christopher Newport; Women's Ice Hockey – Gustavus Adolphus; Men's Ice Hockey – Hobart; Women's Swimming & Diving - Denison; Men's Swimming & Diving - Emory; Men's Indoor Track & Field - Wisconsin La-Crosse; Women's Indoor Track & Field - Wisconsin La-Crosse; Men's Wrestling - Augsburg.
