LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In exclusive voting by the head coaches in the league, Cameron Krimbill of Trinity University has been selected the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year. Complete Release
In that same balloting, Aiden Little of Colorado College earned Newcomer-of-the-Year honors and Tigers’ head coach Russell McMindes was tabbed as Men’s Coach-of-the-Year.
Krimbill, a senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., is currently 11-4 overall this season at the No. 1 line for the Tigers and is ranked No. 2 in the West Region and No. 7 nationally among all men’s NCAA Division III players. He has posted 3-1 and 4-1 marks, respectively, against nationally and regionally ranked individuals thus far this year with the one loss coming on March 19 to the region’s top-ranked player, Robert Liu of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, in a thrilling 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) match at CMS. A two-time All-American and three-time All-SCAC performer, Krimbill defeated Hunter Bajoit of Southwestern, 7-6 (1), 6-2, at the ITA Regional Championships this past fall for his second career ITA Singles title (he also won in 2019). He went on to finish 2-1 at the national ITA Cup. Wednesday night it was announced that Krimbill, along with Southwestern’s Bajoit, were selected to compete for the NCAA Division III individual national championship, May 27-29, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
This marks the second consecutive year that Krimbill has earned SCAC Player-of-the-Year honors, having shared the award with Southwestern’s Bajoit in 2021. His selection this season is the 13th time in the last 14 years a Trinity student-athlete has won or shared the award and the 23rd time overall.
Little, a first-year player from Bradenton, Fla., posted a 7-5 mark in Division III matches at the No. 1 line for Colorado College this season, helping the Tigers to team victories over ITA regionally ranked Hobart (#12), Trinity, Conn. (#16) and Schreiner (#20). His play was huge in pushing the CC program to its most wins in 41 years (13) and its current No. 15 West Region ranking.
Little is the first Colorado College men’s tennis player to earn SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year honors since the award was instituted prior to the 2014 season.
In his 13th season at the helm, McMindes led his squad to the program’s 26th SCAC tournament championship, defeating No. 19 Southwestern, 5-0, in the title match. With the victory, the Trinity men's tennis program holds the most SCAC Championships of any program in conference history. The No. 8 ranked Tigers (15-6), who received the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning the conference title two weekends ago, are making their 11th straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and open regional competition on Saturday against the winner of Friday’s St. Mary’s College (MD) and Pennsylvania State University-Behrend matchup.
McMindes has earned at least a share of the Coach-of-the-Year honor in 11 of his prior 12 seasons leading the Tigers.
