Trinity's Wisener and Gianoulis Headline Men's Golf Postseason Honorees

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the league office today announced the 2021 men's golf postseason award winners. 2021 All-SCAC Men's Golf Team

Holden Wisener of Trinity University was named SCAC Golfer of the Year, while his teammate, Giorgio Gianoulis, was selected SCAC Freshman of the Year. Completing the sweep of postseason honors, Tigers' head coach Sean Etheredge was named the league's Coach of the Year.

Wisener, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, had his best career 54-hole score at the 2021 SCAC Championships to lead Trinity to the team victory, shooting 75-70-72 (217) to finish second individually. Wisener's final round 72 marked the fifth time on the season he had shot par or better in a round. He led all players with 15 birdies in the three-round event, and he was also second in both Par 4 and (tied) Par 5 scoring.

Wisener was the top Tiger individual at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships, finishing in a tie at 31st in the field with a four-round 300 (+17). He finished the 2021 season as the 29th ranked player in the nation (according to GolfStat), and posted a 73.78 adjusted scoring average. His selection as Player-of-the-Year marks the fourth time a Trinity player has earned the league's top honor, and the first since Kalen Vos took home top honors following the 2013 season.

Gianoulis, a freshman from Salt Lake City, Utah, played with Trinity's second team this spring, posting a pair of top 20 finishes at both events he participated. He finished in 20th at the season-opening Alamo City Classic, and concluded with a tie for 19th place at the SCAC Preview at Vaaler Creek, tying for the tournament lead with 25 pars out of 36 total holes.

Gianoulis is the first Trinity men's golfer in program history to earn SCAC Freshman of the Year honors.

Etheredge earned Coach of the Year honors after leading Trinity to the 2021 SCAC Men's Golf Championship, the program's first team title since 2013. The Tigers led by just two strokes at the start of the final round and engaged in a back-and-forth battle with runner-up Texas Lutheran University all day long before pulling ahead on the final hole and earning a three-shot victory.

After winning the SCAC title, Trinity was one of eight teams to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, earning the program its first appearance in the event since 2003 and for just the seventh time in school history. The Tigers, who entered the tournament ranked seventh nationally by the Golf Coaches Association of America and first in the West Region, finished in a tie for 11th place overall with a four-round total of 1203 (+71). The finish is the best for a SCAC men's team at the national championships since Schriener finished seventh at the 2015 event.

In his eighth season at the helm, the SCAC COTY honor is the first for Etheredge and the first for a Trinity men's golf coach since Craig McConnell was so honored following the 2013 season.
