Trinity finishes 15th; St. Thomas 16th at NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The 15th-ranked Trinity University men finished in 15th place and SCAC tournament champion University of St. Thomas followed in 16th as the 2023 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship, which was contested at Keene Trace Golf Course, wrapped up play on Friday afternoon. Trinity finished with a total score of 1190 (290-299-298-303) while St. Thomas posted a team score of 1197 (292-298-313-294). Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University won the tournament by six shots over second-place Piedmont (Ga.) University. This marks the second time in three years that Trinity has finished in the top 15 at nationals, following an 11th-place finish in 2021.

The Celts' Jonathan Miller fired a final round of 71 (-1), which included five birdies and ten pars, to finish in 17th place overall at 289 - the highest finish among all SCAC competitors. His teammate Cade Kiser was not far behind after carding a team-best 69 (-3) in the final round to improve 18 places on the individual leaderboard and finish with a final score of 291, good for 23rd overall.

Trinity's Jacob Mason had the Tigers' best daily score for the third straight round, carding a two-over 74 on Friday to finish tied for 23rd individually (along with Kiser and three others) with a four-day total score of 291. The Tigers started on the back nine for the second straight day and Mason had a tough start, but he played the final seven holes at -3 and had all three of his birdies for the day in that stretch. He finished tied for ninth with 16 total birdies over the four days of play.

Daniel Nunez gave the league its fourth individual to finish inside the top 50, closing out his Trinity career with a three-over-par 75 on Friday, which was two shots better than his round Thursday. He finished with three total birdies and played even-par on the back nine (his first nine holes) and carded a four-day total of 297 which placed him in a tie for 44th.
