SCAC Trio Compete at ITA Cup

ROME, Ga. -- Southwestern's Ashton Ellis and Oscar Roy and Trinity's Alessio Azzalini all competed this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup at the Rome Tennis Centre.

After weather delays pushed the start of their round of 16 match to 7:20 pm, Southwestern's All-American doubles team of Ashton Ellis, a freshman, and Oscar Roy, a sophomore, opened ITA Cup action on Thursday with a 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 upset of the fourth-seeded team of Nolan Shah and John Lasanajak of Emory. The following day, the duo dropped their quarterfinal match to Derin Acaroglu and Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts, 6-3, 6-3 and then fell to Matthew Robinson and Christian Settles of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-3, 6-4, in the consolation draw. 

Trinity senior All-American Alessio Azzalini closed out his play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup at the Rome Tennis Centre on Friday with a straight-set 7-5, 6-4 victory over Marco Siviero of Gustavus Adolphus College in the consolations. Azzalini lost in three sets in his opening match on Thursday, which was also delayed by inclement weather, to 28th-ranked Jordan Theron of University of the South, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. In his first consolation match later that afternoon, Azzalini fell to Caleb Wilkins of Chapman (Calif.) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
