LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Highlighted by tournament MVPs Fabian Delgado and Angel Ramirez of the University of St. Thomas, the conference office today announced the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men’s Soccer All-Tournament team. Official Championship Website
In last weekend’s championship, St. Thomas won its first-ever SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament championship with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Trinity University at Texas Lutheran's Gustafson Field.
Delgado, who scored the opening goal of the tournament for St. Thomas, his first of the season, in the 30th minute of the Celts 1-0 semifinal win over Southwestern, was named the Offensive Tournament MVP. The junior finished the tournament with two shots, including the one shot on target that helped St. Thomas get to its second-straight final with the game-winner against the Pirates.
Ramirez was named Defensive Tournament MVP after anchoring a defense that didn’t allow a goal and surrendered just eight shots on target during the Celts run to the SCAC Crown. He also chipped in offensively, scoring the game-winning goal in the championship match in the 75th minute off an assist from fellow defender, Luis Bencomo. Bencomo and goalkeeper Rodrigo Lazo, who finished with eight saves on the weekend, joined Delgado and Ramirez on the SCAC Men’s Soccer All-Tournament team.
Four Celts earned all-Tournament recognition, followed by Trinity with three honorees and Colorado College and Southwestern each placed two on the squad.
