Krimbill's All-American Accolade Paces SCAC's Efforts at NCAA Men's Tennis Championships

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) sent a pair of men’s tennis athletes to participate in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship last week, highlighted by Trinity’s Cameron Krimbill being named an ITA All-American following his first-round victory.

Krimbill played his first match of the day against Daniel Gomez of Principia College. Krimbill went back and forth with his opponent before edging him 7-5 in the first set.

The second set was all Krimbill as the senior nearly shut out his opponent with a 6-1 victory to advance to the second round.

Krimbill played round two a few hours after completing the first round, the senior faced off against Marcos Dias of Southern Virginia University. Krimbill ultimately ended up dropping the first set of the second match by a score of 6-3.

Krimbill tied set two up at 2-2 before taking a 3-2 lead shortly after. Dias tied set two up at 4-4 after Krimball took a 4-2 lead. Krimbill trailed Dias 5-4 before a weather delay. Krimbill then tied the game at 5-5 after coming out of the break. Both competitors fought hard for the sixth point but it was ultimately awarded to Dias. Krimbill responded by quickly tying the match at 6. The senior for Trinity fought hard in the tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (7) and dropping the second-round match.

Southwestern’s Hunter Bajoit also made his NCAA singles championship debut, facing off against Tufts’ Isaac Gorelik in the opening round. Bajoit dropped a hard-fought match in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3. The match wraps up a successful season for the junior, who was named SCAC Co-Player-of-the-Year along with Trinity’s Krimbill. He finished the year with a 12-3 singles record, including a perfect 11-0 mark from the No. 2 singles line.
