TOM WHITWELL OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defender from Warwick, England, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 10th through Sunday, October 16th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 7)
Whitwell led the Tigers to a road win in SCAC play as Trinity defeated Schreiner, 8-0, on Saturday afternoon. Whitwell not only led a defense that posted its fourth overall shutout - and second in SCAC play - but he also finished off the scoring with his first career goal.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Sami Borchalli of Centenary recorded a season-high 11 saves and notched his 14th career shutout last Friday in a 2-0 win over Dallas. The veteran now has 388 career saves and needs just 17 to become the all-time leader in the Division III era (2011-present) in program history. Freshman goalkeeper Jasper Broad of Colorado College collected 10 saves to help the Tigers go 1-0-1 during a tough Texas swing of SCAC fixtures versus Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. Junior defender Jayce Nunn of St. Thomas stepped in for a shorthanded Celt defense and played center back on a team that allowed just six shots in two SCAC victories last weekend. Nunn also contributed offensively with a pair of goals on corner kicks.
