TANNER BROWN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 1 through Sunday, January 7. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 9)

Brown led the No. 9 Tiger men’s basketball team to a close victory over Schreiner last weekend, defeating the Mountaineers 82-81. Brown put up 32 points on 92.3 percent shooting (12-of-13) from the field, 100 percent from the charity stripe (1-for-1) and an astonishing 100 percent (7-for-7) from three-point range. He ended up nailing a game-winning three-pointer and held Schreiner scoreless over the final minute and forty-four seconds of the contest. Brown added five rebounds, three assists and three steals to his career night of 32 points. This extends Trinity’s win streak to 15 games and an unblemished record of 6-0 in conference play.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior guard Craig Collier of Centenary and the Gents defended home court with two wins, one against Texas Lutheran, 83-60 and another against Southwestern, 75-58 last weekend. He averaged 16.5 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.0 assist per game. Colliers efforts were highlighted by his season-high 26 point performance, his fifth time scoring in double figures this season. Senior guard Nick Anderson of St. Thomas and the Celts went 2-0 in conference play last weekend, averaging 73.7 percent from the field on 11-for-15 shooting. Anderson was in double-figures in both games, scoring 19 points in the 76-58 victory over Southwestern followed by 15 points against Texas Lutheran, 83-69. He averaged 2.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. Junior guard Scott Ruegg of Colorado College led the Tigers last weekend scoring in double-figures in both contests. Ruegg put up 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting followed by 15 points on 6-for-7 from the field. Ruegg had an impressive eight assists in the 77-76 victory over schreiner. He closed out the weekend averaging 2.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals. Senior guard Tristan Dick of Austin College led the ‘Roos last weekend shooting 58.8 percent from the field (20-for-34) across two games. Dick was in double-figures in both contests scoring 26 points in the loss against McMurry, followed by 23 points in a loss to Dallas. Despite the loss against McMurry He added nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and managed a single block. Sophomore forward Luke Hatcher of Southwestern led the Pirates last weekend shooting 45 percent from the field (9-for-20) across two games. Hatcher was in double-figures in both SCAC contests scoring 15 points in the loss against St. Thomas, followed by 16 points in a loss to Centenary. Despite both losses he added an average of 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals. Senior guard Xavier Phillips of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs last weekend in rebounds and assists in the loss to St. Thomas. Phillips was in double-figures with 15 points in both contests and finished the weekend shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc and 50 percent from the charity stripe. Junior guard Dylan Mackey of Schreiner led the Mountaineers with two double-digit scoring performances. Mackey had 21 in the loss against Trinity and 15 in the loss to Dallas. He was feeling generous last weekend with 11 assists against Trinity and nine against Colorado College.
