JOSEPH CHAVANA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Laredo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Saturday, February 14 through Sunday, February 20. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 2
Chavana dominated in his relief/closing role as the No. 15 Tigers defeated No. 7 Birmingham-Southern College and No. 9 Washington University (MO) in last weekend's BSC Classic in Alabama. The Laredo, Texas-native posted a perfect four-out save against the seventh-ranked Panthers, then followed up Sunday afternoon with the final three innings against the ninth-ranked Bears without an earned run to his record. Overall, Chavana posted six strikeouts in four-and-a-third from the mound to just three hits and one walk.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior Ben Ludwig of Southwestern was outstanding in his first start of the season, striking out 10 in six innings of work, surrendering just two earned runs to earn the win in the Pirate’s 14-4 seven-inning victory over North Park. Sophomore Jonathan Hampton of Texas Lutheran held No. 25 Texas-Dallas scoreless through 4.2 innings of work, while striking out two.
