DANIEL NUNEZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Los Angeles, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, March 17 through Tuesday, March 23.
Nunez fired a two day total of 141 (-3) with rounds of 69 and 72 to win medalist honors at the SCAC Conference Preview, conducted Monday and Tuesday at Vaalar Creek Golf Club. Nunez was six shots of the field and the only golfer to finish under par. He led the field with 10 birdies and was also tops in par five scoring at -6. Nunez led Trinity to the men's team title as the Tigers shot 584 as a squad and finished 23 shots clear of second-place Texas Lutheran.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Matthew McArthur of Texas Lutheran finished in a three-way tie or second at the SCAC Conference Preview, firing rounds of 75 and 72 to finish at +3 (147). McArthur had seven birdies and was one of four golfers to card an eagle during the tournament. Senior Nick Morris of St. Thomas had the second-lowest round of Day One at the SCAC Conference Preview with a 71 and finished with a two-day total of 147 to finish at +3 and tied for second place among individuals. Sophomore Austin Kelley of Southwestern posted the low score for the Pirates, carding a 72 and a 77 for a two-day total of 149 (+5) at the SCAC Conference Preview. He finished tied for fifth after sitting in third place following Day One. Senior Brodey Warner of Centenary recorded the Gents' top finish at the Hal Sutton Invitational as he shot a 1-over par 145 to place fourth. Sophomore Jake Sitterle of Schreiner led the Mountaineers with a 22nd place finish after a two-day total of 157 (76-81) at the SCAC Conference Preview. Junior Seth McNeil of Dallas was UD's top golfer at the Texas Cup tournament, played Saturday and Sunday in Plano. McNeil finished tied for 22nd place with a score of 152.
