Three SCAC Baseball Players Earn D3baseball.com All-America Recognition

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference placed three baseball student-athletes on the D3Baseball.com All-American teams, announced Wednesday.

Centenary College’s Tyler Herrera earned Second Team honors, while Texas Lutheran University’s Joe Jimenez secured Third Team accolades. Trinity University’s Tyler Pettit rounded out the SCAC players on the list, gathering Fifth Team recognition. A total of 1,088 players were nominated for the 15th annual D3baseball.com All-America team.

The three SCAC D3baseball.com All-American honorees are the most since TLU placed three athletes on the 2018 AA squad.

Herrera becomes the first Centenary player to be named an All-American since 2017 and just the seventh in program history. He was sensational this past season as he was named both the SCAC Freshman and Pitcher-of-the-Year and was also a First Team All-SCAC selection. Earlier this week, Herrera was named both the D3baseball.com All-Region 10 Rookie and Pitcher-of-the-Year.

The Spring, Texas native finished in the top 10 in the country in ERA (1.59) and went 7-1 with two complete games en route to helping guide Centenary to the SCAC Tournament Title and NCAA appearance last month. Herrera, whose ERA was under 1.00 for most of the season, made 16 appearances and nine starts and in 73.2 innings pitched allowed just 13 earned runs and 61 hits with 25 walks and 59 strikeouts.

The postseason honors continue to pile up for Jimenez, the SCAC Player-of-the-Year, who earlier this week was named D3baseball.com First Team All-Region 10 and was selected as the ABCA/Rawlings Co-Position Player-of-the-Year for Region 10. He ranks second in the SCAC and 15th in the nation with 15 home runs. He led the SCAC and ranked seventh in the country with 67 RBI. He also led the SCAC and ranked 39th in the country with a .742 slugging percentage.

The San Antonio, Texas, native batted .374 with 49 runs, 10 doubles, 15 home runs, and 67 RBI. He also drew 21 walks and sported a .460 on-base percentage.

Pettit, a senior catcher and First Team All-SCAC honoree, is the first All-American for the program since the 2017 campaign and is the 12th different Trinity player to be chosen by D3baseball.com since it began selecting All-American teams following the 2007 campaign.

Among Trinity players with at least 35 appearances this season, Pettit ranks second in batting average (.366) and slugging percentage (.710) and posted the third-fewest strikeouts (20). Overall he holds the second-most extra-base hits while ranking third in each of those categories separately, and is top-five in hits (48), runs (41) and RBI (36).

No. 15 Trinity Baseball will pay in the nightcap of Friday's first day of the NCAA III Baseball Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as the sixth seed playing third-seed No. 4 LaGrange College (GA). First pitch of Friday's fourth contest is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. CT.
