SCAC Nabs Nine ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Selections

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Led by First Team selections Brian Schaub of Trinity, Tyler Post of Texas Lutheran and Preston Ludwick of Centenary, nine Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) baseball student-athletes earned recognition with the release of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-West Region team on Monday.

It marks the 17th consecutive season the SCAC has had five or more student-athletes land on an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team. Texas Lutheran paced all SCAC programs with four selections, followed by Centenary with three and Trinity with two.

Schaub, a sophomore outfielder from Hatfield, Pa., made an immediate impact in hist first season with the Tigers, earning First Team All-SCAC honors and being named to the All-Tournament team. He led the SCAC in home runs with 14, the first Trinity Tiger to do so since Jeremy Wolf hit 11 back in 2016. He also led the league in walks (43), on-base percentage (.545) and slugging percentage (.763), while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Post hit 11 home runs and drove in 41 in his second year with the Bulldogs. He had a slugging percentage of .638, and he scored 41 runs and hit .336. Post also registered 13 doubles. The San Antonio, Texas native was a First Team All-SCAC selection in 2021. He played in 42 games and made 41 starts. He started at designated hitter and at first base.

Ludwick, a senior from Pflugerville, Texas was named SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year and earned First Team All-SCAC honors as both a first baseman and a pitcher, landed on the All-West Region First Team as a utility player. Ludwick went 8-2 on the mound with a 4.09 ERA and led the SCAC is wins (8), strikeouts (77), and limited opponents to just a .189 batting average. Offensively for the Gents, he collected a team-high 65 hits, 49 RBI and led the team with a .404 batting average. Ludwick posted an impressive .492 OBP and a .571 slugging percentage. He struck out only nine times all season in 161 at-bats while drawing 26 walks. He had 17 extra-base hits, posted 21 multi-hit games and eight three-hit games. Ludwick drove in at least two runs in a game 13 times and seven times he had three or more RBI in a game.

The SCAC also landed two-student athletes on the All-West Region Second Team in Texas Lutheran’s Tyler Cauley and Centenary’s Parker Primeaux.

Cauley, a senior outfielder from Baytown, Texas, was named SCAC Player-of-the-Year and earned First Team All-SCAC honors for the fourth time in his career this year. He finished towards the top of the league in multiple offensive categories including RBI (48 – 2nd), home runs (13 – 2nd), runs scored (43 – T8th), hits (50 – T12th), total bases (99 – 1st), sacrifice flies (9 – 1st) and slugging percentage (.623 – 3rd). His 41 career home runs is tied for second all-time in league history and his 199 RBI are good for fifth. 

Primeaux put together an outstanding sophomore season coming out of the bullpen to earn First Team All-SCAC honors this year. His 10 saves on the season currently rank him first in all of Div. III and his 3.22 ERA is best in the SCAC. He made a team-high 27 appearances, posting a 3-4 record on the mound in 64.1 innings of work, allowing just 56 hits and 23 earned runs on the season.

Rounding out the All-Region selections, the SCAC had four additional student-athletes earn Third Team accolades in Trinity’s Tyler Pettit, Centenary’s Cody Crowder and TLU teammates Randy Huerta and Joe Jimenez.

Pettit, a First Team All-SCAC selection was named Third Team All-West Region catcher after leading the league in runners caught stealing with 10 and allowing just 36 total stolen bases all season, which ranked him third best in the SCAC. Offensively, the junior posted a .376 batting average, with 44 hits, 40 RBI and 27 runs scored.

Crowder earned First Team All-SCAC honors as an outfielder and landed on the Third Team All-West Region team after batting .331 with a .467 on-base percentage and a team-best .558 slugging percentage. The senior led the SCAC in both runs scored (51) and triples (6) and finished second in the league with 14 doubles.

Huerta, also a First Team All-SCAC selection in 2021, hit .308 and belted nine home runs. He drove in 24 and scored 32 runs. Huerta, the Bulldogs’ starting third baseman, walked 18 times and stole seven bases during his junior season.

Jimenez, another All-SCAC First Team choice, played and started in 43 games as the Bulldogs' shortstop. Jimenez hit .281 with 46 RBI, nine doubles, and eight home runs. The junior scored 44 runs and stole 12 bases.
