Trinity Remains Alive with 8-4 Victory Over Southwestern

CLEBURNE, Texas -- Despite falling behind 3-0 heading into the bottom of the first, Trinity quickly rebounded, taking control midway through the weather-delayed contest to earn an 8-4 victory over Southwestern in an elimination game at the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Baseball Championship Saturday evening at La Moderna Field. Official Website l Tournament Stats l Photo Gallery | Postgame Interview

Southwestern jumped on Trinity starter and SCAC Pitcher of the Year, Jackson Teer, for three first-inning runs, with the Pirates' Jacob Tanner doubling home two runs and Alexander Cannata singling home another. But Teer settled down and after allowing those runs on four hits in the opening stanza, permitted just three more hits and one run over the next six innings to earn the win and improve to a 8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southwestern opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first as Jacob Tanner ripped a two-run double that scored James Vaquero and Jake Harris and Alexander Cannata followed with a single that scored Tanner.
  • Trinity quickly answered with two runs in its half of the first as a Colt Harris double plated Nicholas Lazzara, who had knocked in Jack Baker with an RBI single two batters earlier.
  • The Tigers evened the score in the bottom of the second and took the lead for good with four more runs in the fourth. An RBI single from Kai Tinker and an RBI double by Mattias Rytting plated three of the runs as Trinity took the 7-3 lead.
  • The teams exchanged runs in the fifth before the duo of Sheppard Tyler and Will Hellings closed out the contest for Trinity.
