TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 13 Trinity Men's Tennis Assistant Coach George Rivers became the first-ever two-time recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NCAA III Assistant Coach of the Year award, the organization announced Wednesday.
Rivers played a pivotal role in the 2022 campaign leading the Tigers to a 16-7 overall record, the program's 12th-consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and a NCAA III Championship run that ended in a Regional Championship appearance in Virginia in May.
During the 2022 season, Trinity notched a pair of All-American honorees under Rivers's direction alongside Head Coach Russell McMindes '02 between senior Cameron Krimbill and the doubles team of senior Christian Settles and junior Hao Nguyen.
The 2016 graduate and three-time letterman of Indiana University became the first-ever repeat recipient of the ITA's national honor as he captured his first title in 2019. In his fourth season in the program, Rivers aided the Tigers to another NCAA III third-round run and the All-America performances of Wilson Lambeth '19 and Jordan Pitts '21.
