SCAC Lands Seven on D3baseball.com All-Region Teams

SUWANEE, Ga. -- The All-Region 10 (West) Region team was released by D3Baseball.com on Memorial Day and seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) athletes were recognized, highlighted by First Team Honoree, Jack Martinez of Trinity University.

This year marks the seventh consecutive season the SCAC has placed seven or more athletes on the D3Baseball.com All-Region team.

Martinez, a sophomore reliver from Corpus Christi, Texas and First Team All-SCAC selection is making his first appearance on an All-Region team. He led the Tiger pitching staff with a 2.12 ERA this season, finishing the year with a 6-0 record and six saves. He recorded a team-best 81 strikeouts in just 51.0 innings of work, holding opponents to a .163 batting average this season. Martinez made 20 appearances on the mound for the Tigers this season.

In addition, the SCAC had five athletes land on the All-Region 10 Second Team in Schreiner’s Gerardo Cordoza, Texas Lutheran’s Tyler Post, Trinity’s Jackson Teer and Cade McGahan and Centenary’s Parker Primeaux.

Cordoza, a First Team All-SCAC selection was named Second Team All-Region 10 catcher and is the first Mountaineer to earn All-Region honors since Chase Valdez earned Third Team in 2013. The senior from Mission, Texas, led the SCAC in runners caught stealing with 18 and earned the league’s batting crown with a conference best .434 batting average. He set career highs this season in batting average, on-base percentage (.476), slugging percentage (.493) and hits (66) to go along with 31 runs scored and 25 RBI.

Post, a junior first baseman from San Antonio, Texas, was named SCAC Player-of-the-Year and earned First Team All-SCAC honors for the second time in his career this year. He led the SCAC in home runs (16), RBI (75), runs (45), total bases (123), and slugging percentage (.769). He was also second in triples (three), hits (58) and doubles (11) and fifth in batting average (.362) and on-base percentage (.449). This is the second appearance on the D3Baseball.com All-Region 10 Team for Post, he also First Team accolades back in 2021.

The SCAC occupied three of the four spots on the All-Region 10 Second Team pitching staff as Trinity’s Teer and McGahan, along with Centenary’s Primeaux all earned spots on the team as starting pitchers.

Teer, the SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year and All-SCAC First Team honoree, finished the season with a 9-1 record and a 2.71 ERA. The sophomore finished second on the team with 79 strikeouts in 86.1 innings, making a team-high 14 starts this season. Teer came to the Tigers after a year at Texas A&M-Kingsville and held opposing hitters to a .214 batting average this season.

McGahan, who earned First Team All-SCAC accolades, closed his career with his best season ever, finishing with a 6-3 overall record along with a 2.47 ERA in his 14 overall appearances that included 12 starts. The senior struck out 69 batters in 69.1 innings for Trinity this season, which ranked third behind his fellow All-Region teammates. McGahan finishes his career with 130 strikeouts and a 13-4 career record with the Tigers.

Primeaux anchored the Gents pitching staff, posting a perfect 8-0 record with a 2.13 ERA in 19 appearances (nine starts) to go along with three saves and three complete games. A First Team All-SCAC honoree, Primeaux is one of just 11 pitchers in the country in all of Division III to win at least eight games and remain undefeated. The senior finished second in the SCAC in innings pitched (84.1) and fourth in strikeouts with 75. This marks the second D3Baseball.com All-Region honor in Primeaux’s career, having earned Third Team honors in 2021.

Rounding out the SCAC All-Region 10 selections was Southwestern’s Landon Durdin.

Durdin, a senior shortstop from Willis, Texas, earned First Team All-SCAC honors after posting career highs in batting average (.354), hits (46), runs scored (27), RBI (29), walks (21), stolen bases (10), doubles (7), home runs (1), on-base percentage (.446) and slugging percentage (.431). This marks the first All-Region selection for Durdin and the first for Southwestern since 2021.
