JACKSON TEER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior right-handed pitcher from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, February 26 through Sunday, March 3. Teer put up a record-breaking performance for No. 19 Trinity in Saturday's 9-1 win over No. 22 UW-Whitewater, finishing with 20 strikeouts over a complete-game victory that earned a series split for the weekend. The junior broke the SCAC record for strikeouts in a game and tied a Trinity single-game record that was first set in 1965. The former conference mark had been held by Mike Frost of Trinity, who struck out 18 batters in a 3/25/2004 contest against Dallas.
Teer is the just the 14th player in Division III history to record 20 or more strikeouts in a game and was just two off the all-time record. Teer improved to 2-0 this season with his first complete game of the year, allowing one run on four hits and didn't issue a walk in the game.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior right-hander Johnny Garza Jr. of Texas Lutheran matched his career-high with six strikeouts over seven shutout innings for his first win of the season in Sunday's 5-3 victory over DeSales. Junior left-hander Trystan Mallory of Austin College had a big performance in a road game at Lyon in his lone appearance last week, throwing 6.0 scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory in a seven-inning game. Mallory scattered four hits with zero walks issued for a WHIP of 0.83, and also struck out four batters.
