Trinity's Galan Headlines Four SCAC Men's Soccer Scholar Honorees

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches (USC) released the 2021 Scholar All-America and Scholar All-Region Teams this week, and four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes earned recognition.

Trinity University’s Jacob Galan headlined the SCAC contingent, earning USC First Team Scholar All-American honors. His teammate, Fraser Burns earned Second Team All-American accolades, along with Texas Lutheran University’s Luis Green. Colorado College’s Kiran Singh rounds out the SCAC Scholar All-American honorees, earning Third Team accolades. All four student-athletes earned First Team All-West Region honors as well.  

Galan, a senior defender, and Cellular and Molecular Biology major who owns a 3.83 grade-point average, anchored a Trinity defense that allowed just 18 goals all season and posted a 0.92 goals-against-average this year. The 2020-21 SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year and three-time First Team All-SCAC honoree, chipped in offensively this season with one goal and two assists for four total points.

An Accounting and Business Administration major with a 3.62 grade-point average, Trintiy’s Burns finished his senior season finished tied for the SCAC lead with 10 assists and added five goals for a total of 20 points en route to earning First Team All-Conference.

Both Galan and Burns played a big part in the success of the Tigers this season. Through their efforts, Trinity finished the season with an overall record of 16-1-2 and were ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches organization. 

TLU’s Green, a Business Administration major and Finance minor, has maintained a 3.47 GPA over the course of his career as a Bulldog. On the pitch, the four-time SCAC Player-of-the-Year, led the league in game-winning goals (5) and finished second in points (31), goals (13), points-per-game (2.21), goals-per-game (0.93), shots (63) and shots on goal (34). He was tied for seventh with five assists. Green was also second in scoring in conference-only competition with seven goals and 17 points in eight SCAC contests. 

Singh, a Mathematical Economics major who owns a 3.77 grade-point average, received the honor for the first time and became the ninth Tiger to earn the organization’s most prestigious award.

The Boulder, Colo., native joins Patrick McGinnis (2004), Brandon Ogilvie (2013), Max Grossenbacher (2015), Soren Frykholm (2016), Jack McCormick (2016), Keenan Amer (2017), Joel Frykholm (2017), Theo Hooker (2016, 2017) and John Schuler (2019) on CC's list of recipients.

Singh, a first-team all-SCAC selection, tied for sixth in the SCAC with seven goals and finished seventh with 18 points despite missing six games due to an injury. His averages of 1.50 points and 0.58 goals per game ranked fourth and fifth in the conference, respectively.

The senior forward scored multiple goals on three occasions, the first of which was the 2-1 overtime victory against No. 25 Gustavus Adolphus College in the season opener at Stewart Field. He capped his career with his third brace of the year and set up two other goals to record a career-high six points in the 6-0 victory over Schreiner University.

Singh finished his three seasons at CC with 19 goals and 47 points, which ties him for 27th and 37th on the program's career lists, respectively.

The Scholar All-Americans will be honored at the All-America Luncheon on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the 2021 United Soccer Coaches Convention in Kansas City.

To be eligible for Scholar All-Region or All-America recognition, student-athletes must meet the following criteria:

  • 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
  • Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
  • Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution
  • Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school.
