SCAC Well Represented at 2022 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA release the selections for the 2022 Division III Swimming and Diving Champions and 20 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes made the cut. OFFICIAL PSYCH SHEET 

Trinity University will be represented by 12 swimmers and two divers, while Southwestern University will send six swimmers and Colorado College will send one. Trinity and Southwestern will also be sending multiple relay teams to compete throughout the championship.

Individually on the women’s side, 2022 SCAC Swimmer of the Meet, senior Jesse Stovall of Southwestern holds the top qualifying spot across the league, ranked 12th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.22. Stoval is also scheduled to compete in the 100-yard freestyle (50.97) and 100-yard butterfly (55.71), ranked 17th and 24th respectively.

Trinty’s Emma Hagan is seeded 14th is the women’s 50-yard freestyle at 23.31. Additionally, the sophomore is seeded 21st in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.40) and 23rd in the 100-yard freestyle (51.09). Hagan’s teammate, senior Mabel Fowler, who earned Honorable Mention All-American in the 200-yard backstroke at the last championship meet in 2019, is seeded 17th in this year’s event with a time of 2:01.85. Fowler will also compete in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.97) and 100-yard backstroke (57.81) where she is seeded 27th and 30th.

Rounding out the individual qualifiers in the pool on the women’s side is Colorado College junior Kate Brush. Brush, who set an SCAC record at the championships last month in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.96) is ranked 25th going into the national meet. Brush is also seeded 30th in the 100-yard butterfly with a qualifying time of 55.93.

In the diving well, 2022 SCAC Diver of the Meet, senior Katarina Partalas and first-year Alexis Radhakrishnan both qualified for the national meet following their performances at last weekend’s NCAA Div. III Diving Regional. Partalas qualified after winning the 1-meter competition with a score of 421.55, while Radhakrishnan punched her ticket following a second-place performance in the 3-meter with a mark of 387.75.

The SCAC will also be well represented in the relay events as both Trintiy and Southwestern will be sending teams to compete.

Trinity’s Fowler and Hagan will be joined by seniors Meghan Magill and Morgen Reyna to compete in the 400-yard freestyle relay where they are seeded 10th with a time of 3:26.61. The same quartet is also ranked 13th in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a qualifying time of 7:30.68.

Trinity sophomore Caroline Myers will be teaming up with Hagan, Magill and Reyna in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Tigers are ranked 17th in the event with a time of 1:34.71. Finally, Fowler, Hagan, Myers, and senior Jadyn Trahan are all set to compete in the 200- and 400-yard medley relay after coming off two conference records at the SCAC Championships. The relays are seeded 23rd and 18th respectively.

Southwestern will also send its 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay team. Stovall, joined by Zoe GarciaEmma Williams, and Emma Frey qualified for the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.49 at the SCAC Championships, setting a new conference record. The 200-free relay is seeded 14th going into the national event. Frey, Garcia, Delaney Anthony, and Stovall qualified for the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.55 which ranks 19th nationally. 

On the men’s side, 2022 SCAC Swimmer of the Meet, sophomore Michael Kohl of Trinity will pace the field of SCAC individuals who qualified for the national competition. Kohl is ranked eighth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.61. He is also seeded 16th in the 100-yard freestyle (44.61) and 30th in the 50-yard freestyle (20.36).

Trinity sophomore Nathan Early heads into his first national meet ranked 15th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.88. Early is also slated to compete in the 100-yard freestyle (45.43) and the 50-yard freestyle (21.02) where he is ranked 52nd and 60th nationally. Classmate and teammate Kendal Southwell qualified in both breaststroke events, seeded 25th in the 200-yard breast (2:01.85) and 26th in the 100-yard breast (55.49).

The final two individual qualifiers are Trinity freshman Caleb Manifold and junior Nolan Anthony. Manifold is ranked 35th in the 100-yard butterfly (48.89) and Anthony is seeded 42nd in the 50-yard freestyle (20.49).

In the relay events, Kohl, Nolan and Manifold will be joined by sophomore Andrew Crosley to compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet is ranked 12th with a qualifying time of 1:21.16.

Finally, Kohl, Anthony, Southwell and Manifold will join to compete in both the 200- and 400-medley relay. The foursome is ranked 15th in the 200 with a time of 1:29.35 and 20th in the 400 after posting a time of 3:19.17.

The championships will be held March 16-19 at the IUPUI IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corp will serve as hosts. A total of 579 participants (526 swimmers and 53 divers) will compete in the championships.
