SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Doubles Championship Final was won by the Trinity men's tennis doubles team of Connor Whittington and Jared Perry on Sunday afternoon.
It was an all-Trinity final to close out the four-day event, hosted by Trinity University. Whittington and Perry prevailed over teammates Ethan Flores and Conor Kaczmarczyk by a final score of 7-5, 6-3 in Sunday's championship.
Whittington and Perry also defeated a pair of teammates in the doubles semifinals yesterday, while Flores and Kaczmarczyk knocked out the final non-Tiger team in the main draw from Concordia University (TX) to reach today's match.
The event began on Thursday and Whittington/Perry began with a convincing 8-2 win over Jonathan Barragan/Max Schechter from Schreiner University (TX). Friday was the toughest day for all the doubles teams as a victory meant another match later in the evening. Whittington and Perry were up to the task, defeating the team of Brylee White/Filip Bazant of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) by a final score of 8-1 to begin the second day. In the Quarterfinals, the Tiger duo knocked off Bernardo Clemente and Parth Patel of Southwestern University (TX) with an 8-3 result to reach the final four.
With the victory, Whittington and Perry advance to the ITA Cup that will be held Thursday-Sunday, October 12-15, in Rome, Georgia. The win also qualifies the duo as ITA All-Americans for this season.
