DJ SPRINGER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Southlake, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, September 29 through Tuesday, October 12. SCAC Golf Release (Week 3)
Springer shot rounds of 69, 69 and 71 - posting a score of 209 (-4) - to lead the Tigers to the team title on their home course at the Alamo City Classic. One of just three golfers to navigate the Quarry Golf Club in under par, Springer came from three shots back on Tuesday to take medalist honors by two strokes over Southwestern's Christian Rodriguez. His 14 birdies paced the field.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Christian Rodriguez of Southwestern led after two rounds and finished in second as one of just three golfers to shoot below par at the Alamo City Classic. Rodriguez finished with a three-round total of 211 (-2) and shot the low score of the tournament with a 66 during Monday's afternoon round. Senior Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner finished with an even par 213 to pace the Mountaineers at the Alamo City Classic. Gu, who led the field in Par 5 scoring (-6), was the most consisent golfer in the 37-player field, firing 71 each of his three rounds. First-year Jackson Lehner of Dallas paced the Crusaders, finishing tied for fifth at the Alamo City Classic. He had rounds of 72, 70 and 73 to finish at 215 (+2) to help lead UD to a second-place team finish. First-year Greg Dupont of St. Thomas finished tied for 15th at last week's LeTourneau Tempest Intercollegiate. Dupont fired rounds of 77, 74 and 74 to finish at 225 (+9).
