Six Named to 2010's All-Decade Team by D3baseball.com

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- On Wednesday, D3Baseball.com released its 2010’s All-Decade Team and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) was well represented with six student-athletes earning recognition, led by Birmingham-Southern’s Bruce Maxwell and Blake Stevens earning First-Team accolades.

Maxwell, a catcher/first baseman, was a three-time SCAC First Team selection, bookending his impressive career with SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year honors in 2010 and SCAC Player-of-the-Year honors in 2012. In 124 career games (all of them starts) for the Panthers, Maxwell hit .430 with 38 home runs, 166 RBI, 123 runs, 190 hits, 61 doubles and one triple. He also tallied a career .830 slugging percentage. A native of Toney, Ala., Maxwell was the 11th MLB Draft Pick in the SCAC since 1987 at the time he was selected when he was drafted in the second round as the 62nd overall selection (second selection overall in the second round) by the Oakland Athletics back on June 5th, 2012 following his junior season. Stevens, who made the most of his lone season in the SCAC before BSC left for the Southern Athletic Association, was named the 2012 SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year as a pitcher. An Honorable Mention All-SCAC honoree, Stevens posted a 7-3 record on the mound with a 2.80 ERA in 80.1 innings pitched with two complete games and 83 total strikeouts as a freshman. Stevens limited opponents to just a .244 average at the plate.

Maxwell and Stevens helped guide Birmingham-Southern to the program's first-ever SCAC championship and within a win of the Division III World Series in 2012. The Panthers finished 38-9 and posted the program's third consecutive 30-win season.

The SCAC saw three student-athletes named to the 2010’s All-Decade Second-Team, including Trinity’s Kyle Felix and Jeremy Wolf along with Texas Lutheran’s Nathan Malinovsky.

Felix, who played catcher for the Tigers from 2008-11, was a four-time First Team All-SCAC honoree as part of a Trinity program that won 125 games and earned three SCAC Tournament Championships during his career in San Antonio. In 164 games played, Felix hit .383 with 37 home runs, 108 extra base hits, 201 RBI, 174 runs 245 hits and tallied a .673 slugging percentage with a .449 on-base percentage.

In his four years at Trinity (2013-16), Wolf helped guide the Tigers to 157 wins, four SCAC Tournament Titles and the 2016 NCAA Div. National Title. Individually, Wolf earned three First Team All-SCAC honors (2014-16) as an outfielder and was named the SCAC Player-of-the-Year as a senior in 2016. In 187 games played, Wolf hit .371 with 19 home runs, 98 extra base hits, 172 RBI, 145 runs, 249 hits and amassed a .584 slugging percentage with a .459 on-base percentage.

Malinovsky, the all-time wins leader for TLU and for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, was a two-time All-American for the Bulldogs and led TLU to a runner-up finish at NCAA Div. III Baseball World Series in 2018. The right-hander, who played from 2016-2019, was the SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year in 2016 and earned SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year honors in both 2016 and 2018. He finished his TLU career with a record of 33-13 and an ERA of 2.84. The New Braunfels, Texas native started 52 games and collected 18 complete games. Malinovsky struck out 348 batters in 371.0 career innings. He averaged 8.44 Ks per nine innings.

Finally, Birmingham-Southern’s Miles Nordgren earned Honorable Mention All-Decade honors as a pitcher. Nordgren, like his teammate Stevens, played just part of his career in the SCAC but did earn a spot on the All-SCAC First Team back in 2012. In that season, Nordgren went 10-1 on the mound with a 2.15 ERA in 58.2 innings pitched, striking out 46, allowing just 44 hits and limiting opponents to a .209 batting average.
