INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.
-– The Trinity University men's golf team will join a field of 37 total teams competing in the 2021 NCAA Championships, hosted by Bethany College and the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

The championships will be held May 11-14 at Oglebay Resort & Conference Center in Wheeling, West Virginia, and will consist of 72 holes of play. Following the first two rounds, the field will be cut to 18 teams to compete in the final round for the Division III National Championship.

This marks the third consecutive men's golf national championship the SCAC has had a representative receive an at-large bid as Southwestern University earned a slot in both the 2018 and 2019 events (there was no championship in 2020).

Trinity was one of four teams chosen from Pool B, while four others were selected from Pool C. There were 30 teams included as automatic qualifiers after winning their respective conference championships.

Trinity is competing in the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2003 and for just the seventh time in school history. The Tigers competed in the Division I Championships in 1953 and 1954, finishing 18th and 14th, respectively. Trinity had its best-ever finish in its first appearance in the D-III tournament, finishing third in 1975. The Tigers made back-to-back appearances in 1978 and 1979, before returning to the event in 2003.

This season's team won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship for the fifth time in program history, but for the first time since 2013. All five Trinity golfers earned All-SCAC honors, led by First Team selections Holden Wisener and Zac Bunder. Wisener finished second individually and led the field with 15 birdies, while Bunder was tied for fourth and hit a 25-foot birdie putt on the finishing hole to put Trinity in the lead for good.

Daniel Nunez was tied for seventh individually, while Bryce Pidgeon was tied for ninth as both secured Second Team All-SCAC honors. DJ Springer tied for 15th in the tournament and was Honorable Mention All-SCAC.

The Tigers currently stand atop of the West Region rankings by the NCAA, also released on Monday, seventh nationally in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America poll (April 30) and eight nationally in the latest GolfStat.com poll (April 28).

Trinity is led by Head Men's Coach Sean Etheredge, who is in his eighth season leading the Tiger men's golf team.
