BRIAN SCHAUB OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore utility player from Hatfield, Pa., has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Sunday, February 15 through Sunday, February 28.
Schaub had an unbelievable start to his Tiger career, leading the fourth-ranked Trinity baseball team to a 5-0 start to the season last week. Schaub tied a school record in his first game, drawing four walks in a win over Howard Payne. He had a home run in the series opener with Southwestern - a 3-1 Friday night win. His first road DH ended with him going 4-6 in the two games, scoring three runs and collecting two RBI in the opener, then picking up three hits in game two. Schaub finished the series with a 1-2 performance in which he drove in four more runs. Schaub leads the Tigers in hitting with a .545 batting average and a 1.182 slugging percentage in the first five games. He has also drawn eight walks and has been hit by four pitches to boost his on-base percentage to a blistering .783 for the year.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year catcher Parker Edwards of St. Thomas went 8-for-13 (.615) with two doubles, two home runs and seven runs driven in to lead the Celts to a four-game sweep of Arlington Baptist. Senior first baseman Preston Ludwick of Centenary finished the weekend series agaisnt Huntingdon (Ala.) batting 6-of-11 (.545) with three RBI, four runs scored, a pair of doubles, and two walks. Senior outfielder Tyler Cauley of Texas Lutheran homered twice and drove in five as the Bulldogs took two of three from Schreiner over the weekend. Cauley hit .385 and slugged 1.000 in the three-game series. In addition to the two home runs, he also had two doubles, a walk, and a stolen base. Senior first baseman Reece Hohhertz of Schreiner went 5-for-14 with two doubles, two runs scored and five RBI as the Mountaineers took one of three games in non-conference play against nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran.
