JACOB MASON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Westminster, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, March 14. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 4)
Mason, after firing a first round 70, logged one of just three under-par performances in the day's second round with a 71, making him the only player in the field to finish under par in both rounds on the day in the rain-shortened Cal Lutheran Kingsmen Invitational which Trinity won by eight shots. Mason finished tied with teammate Daniel Nunez atop the leaderboard at 141 (-3) but Mason claimed medalist honors by virtue of the second-round performance tiebreaker.
Mason, who also earned SCAC Player-of-the-Week honors last week, has now won both tournaments he has entered since the start of 2023, with three tournament titles for the season dating back to the Alamo City Classic in October.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Andrew Bennett of Centenary earned a runner-up finish in the Pinecrest Invitational on Tuesday in Longview, Texas as he finished one shot shy of his first-career individual title to highlight the event for the Centenary men's and women's golf teams as play concluded at the Pinecrest Country Club. Bennett shot a final round 2-under par 70 to finish at 1-under par 212 for the week and one shot behind individual champion Bryson Thurston of host LeTourneau. Senior Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner had rounds of 67, 81 and 69 to finish at 217 (+4) and in a tie for third at the Pinecrest Invitational. His first round 67 was the low round of the event and his final round 69 moved him five places up the leaderboard. Senior Cade Kiser of St. Thomas powered the Celts to a fourth-place finish at the 16-team Glenlakes Invitational with a three-round total of 218 (+2), good for third place on the individual leaderboard and a spot on the all-tournament team. His second-round 68 was the low round of the tournament.
