Trinity's Krimbill Selected SCAC Man of the Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In exclusive voting by the senior woman administrators of the conference, Cameron Krimbill of Trinity University has been selected Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Man of the Year.

Krimbill is the second Trinity student-athlete to earn SCAC Man of the Year honors and the first since Aaron Skinner took home the league’s top honor in 2015.

“Cameron has been an amazing member of our program,” said Trinity head men’s tennis coach Russell McMindes. “He loves being around the game and is so selfless. He is always there for his teammates and coaches, and we are fortunate to have had him as a representative of Trinity University.”

The SCAC Man of the Year award recognizes senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service, and leadership. The inaugural SCAC Man of the Year was presented in 2013.

Krimbill enjoyed a career year with Trinity in 2021, capped by earning All-America honors for his singles play from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the second straight season. He was also the SCAC Men's Tennis Co-Player of the Year in 2021 after earning All-SCAC honors for the second time. Krimbill led the Tiger men’s tennis team to the NCAA Quarterfinals this season as well as qualifying for the NCAA Singles Championships. He was a five-time SCAC Player of the Week in singles and doubles.

Krimbill, who hails from Scottsdale, Arizona, and transferred to Trinity after one season at University of Redlands, expressed his thankfulness for the time he has spent in San Antonio.

“My four years at Trinity have helped me to develop into a young man who has confidence, yet remains humble and a young man that knows the importance of representing himself, his family, his friends and his school with utmost pride and passion.”

Krimbill has been a tremendous asset to the Trinity program, but McMindes acknowledged that it’s not always easy for a transfer student-athlete to integrate into a program and it is especially rare for it to be as seamless as it was in this instance.

"We were extremely fortunate to get him and knew we had something special as he was already a top 10 West Region player as a freshman. It can be difficult integrating into a program as a transfer student and Cam handled that transition beautifully. He has always been a great team player and put the needs of others and the team first. He accepted whatever role was asked of him and performed at a high level.”

A four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and three-time honoree on the SCAC Spring Academic Honor Roll, Krimbill, who graduated this past spring with a 3.80 GPA in Accounting, was also selected for the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team and appeared on the Trinity Dean's List for two semesters. He was a member of Trinity's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as a volunteer peer tutor. Krimbill also served his community at the St. Mary's Food Bank, Tiffany's House of Hope, and the San Antonio Children's Hospital. On campus, he participated in the TU Smashers program that offered free tennis clinics to San Antonio youths.

"Being a student-athlete has helped develop me into the person I am today because it has taught me to be an independent thinker yet a strong team player; a leader on the court as well as in the classroom; and a person that has to multi-task while striving for excellence in all areas of their life,” said Krimbill. “While at Trinity, I have learned to put others first. Whether it be helping to tutor some of my teammates in their studies; staying after practice to work on my game; or giving back to the community through blood donations; on-campus tennis clinics or volunteering at the local food banks, I have found the importance of working well with others.”

Krimbill was one of three outstanding nominees considered by the SCAC Man of the Year Committee. The other candidates were:

  • Shim Eliya, soccer, Centenary College
  • Tyler Cauley, baseball, Texas Lutheran University
