KENDAL SOUTHWELL OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Rio Rancho, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Monday, January 1 to Sunday, January 7. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 8)
Southwell swept the breaststroke events in his final home dual meet on Saturday against Austin College. He recorded a 58.36 in the 100 breaststroke and a 2:08.06 in the 200. Southwell also split a 26.38 on the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Tyler McDermott of Austin College had three very solid swims on Saturday against Trinity. He swam the breaststroke leg in the 200 medley relay in 30.31 and individually posted a 1:08.51 in the 100 breaststroke and a 2:38.45 in the 200 breast. First-year Oscar Mayorga of St. Thomas took home gold in the 500-yard freestyle last weekend in Florida against top NAIA program St. Thomas (Fla.). Mayorga hit in the wall with a winning time of 5:06.72 and now has two of the fastest 17 500-yard freestyle times this year in the SCAC. Senior Eric Uerling of Colorado College was instrumental in CC's big relay meet win over Roger Williams University this weekend, winning all three of his events. Uerling was the top performer on the following winning relays: 3x100 fly (53.0), 500 Crescendo (swimming the 100 in 48.3), and 400 free relay (48.6), and has been the Tigers' most consistent performer in the sprints throughout this season.
