SUWANEE, Ga. – Led by First Team selections Tyler Post of Texas Lutheran and Jackson Teer of Trinity University, seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) baseball student-athletes earned recognition with the release of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region 10 (West) Region team on Tuesday.
It marks the 19th consecutive season the SCAC has had five or more student-athletes land on an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team. Trinity paced all SCAC programs with three selections, followed by Texas Lutheran with two and Centenary and Schreiner with one each.
Post, a junior first baseman from San Antonio, Texas, was named SCAC Player-of-the-Year and earned First Team All-SCAC honors for the second time in his career this year. He led the SCAC in home runs (16), RBI (75), runs (45), total bases (123), and slugging percentage (.769). He was also second in triples (three), hits (58) and doubles (11) and fifth in batting average (.362) and on-base percentage (.449). This is the second appearance on the ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Region 10 team for Post, he also earned the distinction in 2021.
Teer, the SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year and All-SCAC First Team honoree, finished the season with a 9-1 record and a 2.71 ERA. The sophomore finished second on the team with 79 strikeouts in 86.1 innings, making a team-high 14 starts this season. Teer came to the Tigers after a year at Texas A&M-Kingsville and held opposing hitters to a .214 batting average this season.
As ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections, both Post and Teer are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-America teams will be announced on Thursday, June 1.
The SCAC also landed three-student athletes on the All-Region 10 Second Team in Schreiner’s Gerardo Cordoza, Centenary’s Parker Primeaux and Trinity’s Jack Martinez.
Cordoza, a First Team All-SCAC selection was also named D3Baseball.com Second Team All-Region 10 earlier this week. The senior catcher from Mission, Texas, led the SCAC in runners caught stealing with 18 and earned the league’s batting crown with a conference best .434 batting average. He set career highs this season in batting average, on-base percentage (.476), slugging percentage (.493) and hits (66) to go along with 31 runs scored and 25 RBI.
Primeaux anchored the Gents pitching staff, posting a perfect 8-0 record with a 2.13 ERA in 19 appearances (nine starts) to go along with three saves and three complete games. A First Team All-SCAC honoree, Primeaux is one of just 11 pitchers in the country in all of Division III to win at least eight games and remain undefeated. The senior finished second in the SCAC in innings pitched (84.1) and fourth in strikeouts with 75. Primeaux, who earned D3Baseball.com All-Region honors earlier this week, returns to the ABCA Rawlings All-Region Second Team, having earned Third Team honors in 2022 and Second Team in 2021.
Martinez, a sophomore reliver from Corpus Christi, Texas and First Team All-SCAC was the lone SCAC athlete to earn First Team D3Baseball.com All-Region First Team accolades earlier this week. He led the Tiger pitching staff with a 2.12 ERA this season, finishing the year with a 6-0 record and six saves. He recorded a team-best 81 strikeouts in just 51.0 innings of work, holding opponents to a .163 batting average this season. Martinez made 20 appearances on the mound for the Tigers this season.
Rounding out the All-Region selections, the SCAC had two additional student-athletes earn Third Team accolades in Texas Lutheran’s Blake Cappadona and Trintiy’s Cade McGahan.
Cappadona, a fifth-year senior from Mont Belvieu, Texas, wrapped up his collegiate career as an All-SCAC Second Team selection finishing second in the SCAC in runs (41), at-bats (161), and triples (3), fourth in walks (28), and seventh in RBI (30) while batting .304 in 42 games. Cappadona, who earned Third Team All-Region honors as a utility player, also made eight appearances on the mound, finishing with a 2-0 record. He totaled 21 strikeouts in 16.1 innings, issuing just nine walks while opponents hit .203 against him.
McGahan, who earned First Team All-SCAC accolades, closed his pitching career with his best season ever, finishing with a 6-3 overall record along with a 2.47 ERA in his 14 overall appearances that included 12 starts. The senior struck out 69 batters in 69.1 innings for Trinity this season, which ranked third behind his fellow All-Region teammates. McGahan finishes his career with 130 strikeouts and a 13-4 career record with the Tigers.
