MATT LANZARA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Moraga, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Friday, January 6 to Saturday, January 7. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 9)
Lanzara had an impressive backstroke weekend in California as the senior walked away with two wins on Saturday against Pomona-Pitzer and Cal Lutheran. In a tight 100 backstroke, Lanzara got to the wall first in 52.06. He followed that up with a 1:56.64 to win the 200 backstroke. Lanzara also led off the second place 400 medley relay in 51.85 and split a 22.23 on the B 200 freestyle relay.
At Occidental on Friday, Lanzara split 48.44 to open the mixed 400 freestyle relay. He was also second in the 50 backstroke (24.16) and third in the 50 freestyle (21.94).
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Antonio Barbee of Centenary swam his fastest time of the season in the 100 free (54.87) on Saturday against the Millsaps College Majors in a non-conference dual meet on the road. He also earned a runner-up finish in the 50 fly, swimming a time of 26.73. Barbee now has five individual wins this season.
