MARISA AMARINO OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a fifth-year setter on the women's volleyball team from Calabasas, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning October 16.
The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
Amarino has led the 11th-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a 21-3 overall record that includes a 10-0 conference record and a 17-match winning streak heading into the weekend. She leads the team with 484 assists (5.84 assists/set) and has compliled nearly 2,700 career assists – which ranks her eighth in school history.
The three-year captain of the Tiger volleyball team has been active in Trinity’s Gamma Chi Delta sorority for much of her time on campus. She served as the Standards Chair last year, while assuming the role of the sorority President for 2022-23. Amarino was the recipient of the 2023 Presidential Award of Excellence, which is “given to senior students in recognition of their long-term commitment and extensive, multi-role involvement in the community.”
Through the Gamma Chi Delta sorority, Amarino has been a camp volunteer for the Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) since 2020. The CAMP organization “provides recreational opportunities for individuals with medical conditions or disabilities.” The sorority consistently gives to the CAMP organizations and volunteers at its events. Amarino has also volunteered at Gardopia Gardens over the past several years, creating gardens and green spaces for underprivileged communities and schools in San Antonio. The work also includes education on helping both the environment and your local community.
Amarino is the first Trinity volleyball player to earn the award since the 2017-18 school year when former Tiger player and current assistant coach Maggi Linker was selected.
