Four From SCAC Earn NABC All-District Accolades

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2023-24 NABC Coaches' Division III All-District teams and coaches Tuesday, recognizing the best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division.

Trinity University’s Christian Green and Schreiner University’s Kamden Ross earned First Team District 10 honors, while Green’s head coach, Jimmy Smith was selected as the District 10 Coach of the Year.

Additionally, University of St. Thomas’ Calvin Williams IV was tabbed NABC District 10 Second Team.

The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division III.

Green, who earlier this week was named D3hoops.com Region 10 Rookie of the Year and All-Region First Team honoree, led the Tigers in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks, and field goal percentage. The SCAC First-Year Player-of-the-Year, started every game this season, averaging 16.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game en route to earning First Team All-SCAC accolades.   

Ross, a native of Cibolo, Texas, became just the second player in league history to win both the SCAC Player-of-the-Year and SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors in the same season. The junior led the SCAC in both points per game (18.3) and rebounds per game (13.2) and finished second in the league connecting on 62.8 percent from the field. This season, Ross became just the second player in SCAC history to snare 300-plus rebounds in a single season with 330, the second highest single season total in league history. This year Ross became the first men’s basketball player in league history to lead the conference in total rebounds for three consecutive years.

Coach Smith was named the NABC Region 10 Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season during which the Tigers finished with a 23-4 overall record. The reigning SCAC Coach-of-the-Year has led Trinity to three consecutive 20-win seasons and the 23 wins this year is tied for the fourth-most in school history. Trinity also made its second NCAA Playoff appearance in the last three years and won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship.

Williams IV, a junior guard from Spring, Texas is making his second-straight appearance on the NABC District 10 All-District team, earning First Team last season. A two-time First Team All-SCAC honoree, Williams IV started all 27 games for the Celts this season, leading the team and finishing second in the SCAC averaging 17.9 points per contest. Additionally, Williams IV finished third in the SCAC with 85 assists and fourth in the league with 47 steals.
