Four SCAC Men's Golfers Named to PING All-Region Team

NORMAN, Okla. - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released the 2024 Division III PING All-Region honorees last week, and four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) men's golfers were recognized.

Centenary's Andrew Bennett, Southwestern’s Ethan Bridges, Trinity's Jacob Mason and Texas Lutheran’s Tobey Wills each earned a spot on the Region VII Team as players across seven regions earned all-region accolades in 2024.

Bennett, a senior from Bossier City, La., and the SCAC individual medalist, was selected for the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships last week where he played one round on Tuesday before he was forced to withdraw due to illness on Wednesday. The first Centenary men's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the Division III era (2013-present), Bennett is the first Centenary men's golfer to be named All-Region since Zander Winston in 2018. Bennett finished nine shots ahead of Jacob Mason at the conference championships last month as he claimed his second-career victory after he won the individual title at the UMHB Men's Invitational this past Fall. He earned First-Team All-SCAC honors last month and was named SCAC Men's Golfer of the Week once this season.

Bridges, a sophomore from Montgomery, Texas, played in five tournaments in the 2024 season, gaining three top-ten finishes, highlighted by an individual win in the FST Invitational at Pinecrest Country Club. Bridges was named SCAC Men's Golfer of the Week for week four, and at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, Bridges was the highest finisher of Southwestern University men's golfers, finishing in a tie for thirteenth. As it stands, Bridges is ranked eighth among all Region VII players and 39th in the country, according to https:/scoreboard.clippd.com.

This marks the second time in his career that Trinity's Mason has earned the honor, after also garnering the award in 2022 – his first season with the Tigers. Mason was also a PING Honorable Mention All-American that season. A junior from Westminster, Colo., Mason is a three-time All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performer who qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second time as an individual in 2024. Mason just missed the cut line after the first two rounds of this week's NCAA Tournament. He also led the Tigers to the 2023 NCAA Championships, pushing the team to a 15th-place finish. At this year's NCAA Championships, Mason shot 147 (76-71) for the first two days of action. He carded five birdies and an eagle among his 36 holes.

After leading the Texas Lutheran men's golf team during the 2023-24 campaign, Wills earned Second Team All-SCAC accolades this season and becomes the first golfer to earn the award since his former teammate, Chase Maus, in 2022. During the 2023-24 campaign, Wills led the Bulldogs in scoring in 9-of-10 tournaments. He finished the campaign with a 72.7 stroke average. Wills would win two tournaments in 2024 and would finish seventh at the 2024 SCAC Championships. Overall, Wills finished in the top ten in eight out of the Bulldogs ten tournaments this season and finished under par in three of them.
