BRADY JOHNSTON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from Northampton, England, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 4 through Sunday, October 10. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Johnston anchored a backline that allowed just four goals on the weekend and garnered hard-earned conference road victories over both Texas Lutheran and Southwestern. Johnston stepped up to deny a lot of shot attempts over the weekend and found himself in the right spot at the right time to add a goal to his resume as the senior scored the game-winner in Friday's win over TLU.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Goncalo Pernas of Dallas put on a heroic display for the Crusaders against Colorado College, recording a season and career-high 12 saves. He single-handedly kept UD in the match with his work between the sticks, making save after save against a vicious onslaught by the Tigers, who were down 1-0 for most of the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Noel Pena of Texas Lutheran made two saves on his way to his fourth clean sheet of the season in Sunday's win against Schreiner. With that performance, Pena moved into first place in the SCAC in both goals-against average (0.21 GAA) and goals allowed (one goal) so far this season. Sophomore defender John VanHook of Schreiner started in both matches over the weekend, dropping to center back to anchor the defense.
