KENDAL SOUTHWELL OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Rio Rancho, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Monday, January 9 to Saturday, January 14. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 10)
Southwell took first in both breaststroke events on Saturday in the Tigers' win over Southwestern. He touched in 2:05.25 in the 200 breaststroke, and was also first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke with a 57.62. On the winning 200 medley relay, Southwell split 26.06 on the breaststroke leg.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Andrew Renninger of Southwestern had three top three finishes in Saturday's dual meet at Trinity, placing second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.77, third in the 200 Free (1:49.64) and touching first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.24. Junior Antonio Barbee of Centenary earned three top-10 finishes on Saturday at the Austin College Invitational. Barbee's best finish was a fourth place in the 200 fly as he swam a time of 2:10.49. He finished eighth in the 100 fly (58.20) and ninth in the 100 free (54.45). Senior Nicolai Van Zyl of University of the Ozarks split 27.64 and won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.01, and touched first in the 50 freestyle in 22.89 at Monday's dual against Hendrix. At the Austin College invitational, Nicolai placed second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.02, third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.08, and third in the 50 freestyle in 23.21.
