JACOB MASON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Westminster, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Co-Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, March 7. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 3)
Mason earned medalist honors by carding a one-under 143 at The Whitney at the White Bluff Golf Resort, shooting an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Mason had 14 pars, two birdies, and two bogeys in Tuesday's round, which left him with a four-stroke lead over the nearest competitor. The Tigers finished as runner-up at the event.
He shared this week's honor with Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner University.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner fired a pair of 69s to finish with a two round score of 138 (-6) to earn medalist honors at the Schreiner Spring Shootout. He was four shots clear of his nearest competitor and one of just two golfers to finish the tournament under par. His efforts catapulted the Mountaineers to a tie for second in the team rankings. Sophomore Rex Soulliere of Dallas led the Crusaders to the team title at The Whitney, finishing with a two-round score of 147 (+3), which included a two-under 70 on Tuesday - the lowest round of the event. Sophomore Tobey Wills of Texas Lutheran finished eighth overall at The Whitney with a 9-over par total of 153.
