Five SCAC Men's Golfers Named to PING All-Region Team

NORMAN, Okla. - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released the 2021 Division III PING All-Region honorees last Thursday and five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) men's golfers were recognized.

Trinity University paced the SCAC with three honorees, while Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University each placed one athlete on the list.

Trinity, who captured the SCAC Championships and placed 11th in the NCAA Championships in May was represented by Bryce Pidgeon, DJ Springer and Holden Wisener.

Pidgeon was selected after earning All-SCAC honors for the 2021 spring season. Pidgeon shot a 72 (one over) on the final day of the NCAA Championship. The senior shot three under on par fives in the NCAA Championship which helped the Tigers secure 11th place nationally. Pidgeon also shot a career low 36-hole score of 141 (-1) at the Alamo City Classic on February 8th.

Springer also received All-SCAC Honors following the end of the season. Springer placed first at the Alamo City Classic on Feb. 8th by shooting a career low 36-hole score of 137 (-5). Springer shot a 301 (+18) at the NCAA Championships and placed 34th individually.

Wisener was named SCAC Golfer of the Year after an impressive sophomore season. The second-year golfer paced Trinity in the NCAA Championship by shooting a 300 (+17) to finish 31st individually. Wisener also shot his best career 54-hole score to lead Trinity to the win at the SCAC Championship. The sophomore shot 75-70-72 (217) to finish second individually.

Southwestern’s Austin Kelley, a sophomore from Grapevine, Texas, led the Pirates to a team victory at the West Region Invitational, scoring a 215 through three rounds with scores of 70, 71, and 74 to finish at 215 and win the event. He also finished fifth at the SCAC Preview with a two-round score of 149, and No. 24 at the Schreiner Shootout with a two-round score of 156.

TLU was represented on the team by junior standout Chase Maus. In 2021, Maus placed fourth at the SCAC Championship and earned First Team All-SCAC honors. His 2021 season also included a third-place finish at the Alamo City Classic, a third-place finish at the D3 San Antonio Shootout, and a third-place showing at the West Region Invitational.

For adjusted scoring, Maus ranked 26th nationally in the GolfStat individual rankings for NCAA Division III. He had an adjusted scoring average of 73.98. In nine matchups against players ranked in the Top 100, Maus was 5-4 head-to-head against those players in tournaments.
