RUTH HILL OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Abilene, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 20 to Sunday, March 26. SCAC Women's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 8
Hill led the 14th-ranked Tigers to a split against nationally-ranked teams last week, falling to No. 24 Johns Hopkins before defeating No. 26 Colby College (Me.). Hill went 2-0 for the week, earning signature wins in both matches. Against Johns Hopkins, she rallied after dropping the opening set to earn a three-set win over the No. 27 singles player in NCAA III. Hill then clinched the win over Colby by taking a straight-set win to put Trinity up 5-1 at the time. Both victories came at line one singles and she improved to 6-5 in singles this season.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior Nina Mitrofanova of Southwestern defeated Colby's Sam Riordan, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 1 singles in the 23rd-rarnked Pirates' 6-3 victory over the No. 26 team in the nation. Sophomore Christian Heffron of Colorado College swept both of her matches at the No. 1 singles spot as CC opened its spring break trip last weekend. She began the weekend with a dominating 6-2, 6-1, victory over Paige Shinall of Puget Sound, then rallied to defeat Taryn Fujimori of Linfield, 6-7(3), 6-3, 7-6(4). First-year Ella Mullins of St. Thomas stepped up in a big way this week taking wins over SCAC opponents Schreiner and TLU at the No. 3 line. Against TLU, Mullins won 7-6 and 6-2, and against Schreiner 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Daniella Rodriguez of Schreiner clinched the Mountaineers' 5-4 victory over Whitworth with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory at No. 5 singles.
